An Easter Egg of a Different Kind

Last Thursday night, Kim and Terry were out for the night and the four of us were enjoying some quality time, just the four of us. I was in the kitchen working on some cookies, Kristoffer was at the counter next to me and the boys were playing in the dinner...when suddenly we heard a big thud followed by Kaden screaming. Kaden has NO FEAR when it comes to anything and we are constantly telling him to not stand up in the diner, and last week he stood up and fell off head first into a dining room chair. Kristoffer picked him up while I continued what I was doing. He brought Kaden over and told me to look at Kaden's head. I didn't look right away, because he falls all the time and I've smooched his head many times....BUT this was no average fall! Kristoffer insisted that I really should look at his head, and I was instantly sick to my stomach when I saw the goose egg that had popped up on poor Kado's head.

He was pretty hysterical for about five minutes, but then we gave him a cup of juice and he answered with his cute "tank ooo" (thank you)!! We kept a close eye on him until bedtime, and thankfully he didn't seemed phased by it. And it didn't teach him a lesson either...the very next day he was standing up again!!

Easter Fun

Easter is always a fun, action packed day. Ours started pretty early, we tried to get up early so we could get all ready before the boys woke up and all the fun started!

The tricky Easter Bunny hid eggs all over the living room...

...on the stairs...

...and even on the tractors!

Karter was the first to wake up, but he was a little confused why we were both coming into his room, why we flipped the light on, and why I kept taking his picture.

Then he remembered it was Easter!!

Kaden wasn't quite awake yet, but Karter was excited to tell him that the Easter Bunny had come and he needed to get up!

Luckily, he generally wakes up pretty happy!

Karter was the first to spot the baskets, and quickly ran to dig into them!

Diving right in!!

Both of the boys got some super cool new shades! (Kaden just doesn't like his yet.)

After looking at all their new goodies...it was time to move on to the egg hunt.

CHOCOLATE!!!

Karter is at such a fun age, and he was all about finding the eggs...he shook them all to make sure something was inside.

Kaden wasn't really into finding the eggs, but he was all about opening them and eating the contents!!

After the egg hunt is when the day started to fast forward a little bit. By the time we were all dressed and ready for the Sunrise Service, we didn't have time to get a picture of our family all dressed up. We had a great church service and delicious breakfast at church. I took my camera to church, but unfortunately didn't take a single picture. :(

I haven't really blogged about it, but for the last four months I have been the Children's Worship Director at church. It is such a rewarding position and I work with a fantastic group of children eager to learn more about God. For Children's Worship this week I planned an Easter Egg hunt throughout the church, but instead of putting candy inside, I made Resurrection Eggs. It was a lot of work ( I made 24 dozen), but at the end of our worship I could see it made a difference in the kids life. It was such a fun way to teach them the true meaning of Easter. This was the first week Karter went back to Children's Worship and he was eating it up!! He has been talking about everything he learned all day!! The more Karter learns, the more I can see his love for Jesus grow...what a truly amazing thing!!!

After an awesome morning worshiping our Risen Savior, we went to Gran-Gran and Papaw Bud's for a delicious meal and fellowship with family. Check back later this week for more pictures from our Easter celebration...

Barber Shop

The last go around for the boys haircuts I did them all on different days, which meant I had to clean up all of their little hairs 3 different times. So this time I wised up and cut Karter and Kaden's hair on the same day.

The key for success with Kaden is to work fast!! He loved his juice and sucker (first time he had ever had one), but he still didn't like to be contained for too long. It was only his second haircut, but he did great and let me do my job. Big brother Karter was a great helper too!


After Kaden got cleaned up, it was Karter's turn. The key for success for Karterman is always the promise of "ice cream" (aka, a frozen fruit cup) if he let me cut his hair. He also insists that I use the black scissors, because the orange ones are the bad ones...whatever that means!!


It was a little more interesting keeping Kaden occupied while I cut Karter's hair. He was definitely playing with some of the clippings and required a second bath to clean him up...I didn't mind as long as he was occupied and safe!

Nothing like enjoying your reward in your undies!!

Cute Treats For The Good News Club

For the past 5 or 6 weeks I have been making snacks for The Good News club at Shenandoah that our church does after school. Last Tuesday was their last meeting, so I decided to make some fun insect cookies for the kids.

A project like this takes a few days to actually do, so I had to find a place to keep the cookies out of every ones way. "Luckily" we have the piano in the computer room to put the cookies so they can dry.

After the base icing was dry, I put on some finishing touches and allowed them to dry. The flowers are always my favorite!

The ladybugs were a new cutter that I got, and I think they turned out really cute.

With this order I tried out a lot of new techniques...I thought if I messed up, the kids wouldn't really care and still eat the cookies!! Most of the new techniques worked really well, and I will definitely be doing them a lot more.

They all turned out so cute when they were plated together. I was told that the kids really enjoyed their special treats!

Over the next few weeks I have a lot of projects I am going to be working on with Easter and Mother's Day coming up...check back next week for some of my Easter cookies!! I love decorating cookies, and I really wish my Grandma Tomaw was alive to see what I am doing and give me some advice. I wish I had paid more attention when I was growing up in the bakery.

Wordless Wednesday - Relaxing with Daddy

Memorial Park

A couple of Sundays ago, the weather was so beautiful that we decided to take the boys to the park in New Castle to feed to ducks. Everyday when we drive past the park, both boys are on the look out to see who can see the first duck.

Karter and Kaden were both super excited about seeing the ducks. Karter helped Daddy pop some popcorn to take to feed them.

However, the ducks had other plans for their Sunday afternoon. They were too busy doing "something else", that they didn't even notice Karter was throwing handfuls of popcorn in their direction.

So instead, we walked on down the path to play on the toys.

I don't think he was to upset about the change in plans!

It was so nice to finally be outside doing something fun!

Wordless Wednesday - Battle Cupcake

Mommy's Little Helper

This weekend I baked up a couple batched of cupcakes to take for the kids at church. I love to bake, but even better I love that most things I bake don't sit around here to tempt me! As much as I love to bake, I also love having Karter in the kitchen with me.

Karter was in charge of the sprinkles and he was pretty excited to open them up. He looked real closely at the label on the bottle (that had the sprinkles in a bowl) and said, "this says that we need to put them in a bowl first." So of course, we had to put them in a bowl!!

His second official title was taste taster!!

He thought it was funny that he had some on his lip.

He was so cute trying to like it off.

Once we got to the sprinkles I was too busy trying to make sure he didn't dump the entire bottle on the cupcakes to take any pictures. Just imagine sprinkles everywhere and each cupcake at its fair share on top!

He thought our end result was pretty tasty!

Kaden woke up just in time to have his own cupcake. (Can you tell he's been sleeping!?)

He wastes no time diving right in.

And laughing at big brother (bubba) being silly!
