Deck the Falls

This past Saturday after decorating our home for Christmas, we decided to go down to Cannon Falls for their annual "Deck the Falls" celebration. The small businesses around the square all have special discounts, people are out carolling, Mr. and Mrs. Claus are in town and there is a parade to end the day. We needed to do a little shopping and Karter loved the Holidazzle so much we thought this would be a fun little outing.
Here are pictures of all the floats in the parade...

Yep, that was the WHOLE parade, a whopping 6 floats! Gotta love small towns!!

It wasn't the parade that drew us to Cannon Falls anyway, it was the fact that Santa was going to be in town (for free) and we wanted to get Karter's picture taken with him. We have wanted to a couple of other times, but we just couldn't justify paying $15 for a photo, all we wanted was to take the picture ourselves. Karter loves Santa, but apparently is pretty scared of him...

We had no idea he would act like this, he can point out a Santa anywhere and can "ho, ho, ho" like no one else! When we arrived, we had to wait in line for maybe 5 minutes, but when it was our time Karter walked right up to him and said "HO, HO, HO". It was so cute and everyone laughed, and we thought we would get a quick photo and be on our way. However, when Kristoffer went to pick him up and put him on Santa's lap, he instantly started kicking and screaming. Mrs. Claus thought that if we were both in the picture too it would help calm him down, but if you can't tell by the picture, that didn't work! We were pretty embarrassed (and completely surprised) by the way Karter acted, but based on the other parents comments it was a pretty typical response. Oh well, there is always next year!

That is too adorable...and a great photo for the future! Any smart kid SHOULD be scared of a goofy man with a long white beard dressed in a red suit!!! I'm glad you didn't give up on the photo!

Haha...I think that is a pretty typical family photo of the first Santa Claus visit.

That is what you get for putting him on that impostors lap.

It looks like St. Nick was in the parade but it was the American Santa Claus for the picture.

Das ist einfach nicht richtig!

Jonah had his picture taken with St. Nick on Saturday and looked scared but not crying. I think he will be happier next year, now that he know St. Nick brings chocolate to his shoes on 6 Dec.
